Aiki-Goshindo (Self Defense)
Adult classes – Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-9pm
Aiki-Goshindo is a system of self-defense that is scenario based which which uses natural circular body movement and relaxed energy. Classes cover the most common situations an individual may encounter.
This is a system with roots in several traditional eastern martial arts systems such as Fudo Shin Aikijutsu, Karate, and vintage close-quarter combat of Defendu, developed by W.E. Fairbairn.
Scenarios covered are situations that present different levels of aggression from nuisance to violent assault, with different levels of response (control, immobilizations, etc.) but in a street application. There is no competition, such as Brazilian Jujitsu.
Basics are taught, such as kuzushi(body movement), ukemi (proper method for falling safely), joint locks and throws, and basic strikes with an open hand with safety in mind.
Awareness of potential dangers in our surroundings, avoidance, and restraint are themes discussed during classes.
“Everyone has a spirit that can be refined, a body that can be trained in some manner, a suitable path to follow. You are here to realize your inner divinity and manifest your innate enlightenment.”
